Update and R&D:

The board actually “loads up” and when I feel like smoking the section I point downt the line and the board releases its energy projecting down the line.

Overall, its pretty crazy a board can have

that much feel in waist high creepers.

I’m a fan of the short and stubby boards that are dominating the line up these days, but some of them are too stubby, and get squirrely in anything more than small, mushy surf. Enter Proctor’s Monsta v.2. It’s an awesome mix of a shortboard that can coast through summer mushburgers, but will also let you unleash high-performance turns in the pocket when the surf picks up or gets steeper. On their site (proctorsurf.com/Surf-Boards/Monsta) there are cool descriptions of three different rockers Proctor uses for this board, depending on what the surf is like in your area. It’s meant to be ridden 3-4 inches smaller than your normal shortboard, and 1/2” wider. And actually, if your go-to blade is a chippy board that’s 18 1/4” x 2 1/4”, the Monsta just might change what you think of as your “normal” shortboard. Surfed my Rascal 2 couple of times

and found this board is FAST.

I was always skeptical about buying boards other than our local shapers here in Hawaii.

I always thought how different could a surfboard be with just so many ways to shape it.

I hope all is well with you two and the crew at Proctor Surfboards! This past weekend was SurfRide / Christian Surfing Federation’s big championship contest at Oceanside to determine the season champions. The waves were really fun, glassy 4-6 feet, amazing weather with a lot of competitors and spectators on the beach. At the end of the day,

I ended up taking 2nd place in the contest and First place for the season.

Technically, I won the contest too, but they gave me an interference call reducing one wave by 1/2, and I still had enough points to come in 2nd place.

This is my 4th season title!

It was all about da Monsta this day

and my confidence with my equipment

was higher than it’s ever been.

When the swell jumped up to overhead in the middle of one of my heats, the Monsta just manhandled it – this board just will not slide out.

It holds in every condition – knee high to a few feet overhead!!

This could be the one board quiver and has steadily grown to become my favorite model.

That being said, of course I could drift back to G4E, Blackbird V, Accelerator, Falcon, or whichever Proctor I’ve got under my feet at the time. They are all so good and work in so many conditions. Thank you for keeping me in the best boards ever!!

I have a pretty good action shot on the Monsta and I will send these as soon as I get them cleared. Thank you so much for another great season of support!

P.S. Clay absolutely raves about the Ghost every day he rides it. I gotta order one of those next!!

It’s a little more challenging in bigger stuff but so much more loose and smooth.

I have been feeling a lot more happy after leaving the water having surfed on the bullet.

And that’s what it’s all about.

As always, I appreciate the Proctor kindness,

accessibility, and humility throughout the board ordering process.

That’s as much of a reason that I came back to you guys for another board as how good the boards themselves are.
